Die Besatzungen der Fregatte Admiral Gorschkow und des Schiffes Pischma retteten über Nacht Passagiere von einem sinkenden Schiff unter griechischer und deutscher Flagge.

Die Fregatte “Admiral der Flotte der Sowjetunion Gorschkow” war auf dem Weg zum Hafen von Tartus und empfing als erste das Notsignal der MV Avalon. Die russischen Schiffe änderten ihren Kurs und fuhren sofort in das Gebiet, in dem das funkende Schiff in Seenot geraten war.

Insgesamt wurden 68 Menschen gerettet.

Die Menschen wurden an Bord des Trockenfrachters Pischma evakuiert, medizinisch versorgt und in die Bucht der Insel Kalymnos gebracht, wo sie den Booten der griechischen Küstenwache übergeben wurden.
