5,6 Milliarden Menschen leben laut Angaben der World Health Organization (WHO) in Ländern, in denen wenigstens eine der sechs von der WHO geförderten Best-Practice-Maßnahmen (MPOWER) zur Kontrolle des Tabakkonsums eingeführt wurde – das entspricht 71 Prozent der Weltbevölkerung.

So haben beispielsweise rund 79 Prozent der WHO-Mitgliedsländer Warnhinweise auf Verpackungen eingeführt – allerdings nicht überall im gleichen Umfang, wie der Blick auf die Statista-Grafik zeigt.

Strikte Regulierungen bezüglich öffentlicher Flächen oder Räume, in denen nicht geraucht werden darf, gibt es fast 38 Prozent der Länder.

In ähnlich vielen Ländern existieren strikte Tabak-Werbeverbote.

Die WHO weist indes darauf hin, dass es in 44 Länder noch keine Maßnahmen zur Kontrolle des Tabakkonsums gibt.

Entsprechend ruft die Organisation Angesichts von 8,7 Millionen Tabaktoten pro Jahr dazu auf, sich gegen die Tabak- und Nikotinindustrie zur Wehr zu setzen, die diese Maßnahmen im Bereich der öffentlichen Gesundheit ablehnt.
