Ein potenziell gefährlicher Trend kursiert derzeit auf TikTok. Unter dem Hashtag “#KlarnaSchulden” vergleichen Nutzer:innen die Höhe ihrer über Klarnas “Buy now, pay later“-Funktion (BNPL) angehäuften Schulden. Die Teenager toppen sich dabei in den meisten Fällen mit Schulden im einstelligen Tausenderbereich – Ausreißer nach oben gibt allerdings immer wieder.
Mit Klarna können Käufe in Online-Shops auf Rechnung bestellt werden und müssen in der Regel erst nach 30 Tagen getilgt werden – das fördert impulsive Kaufentscheidungen. Die Transaktion ist allerdings von einer vorherigen Kreditprüfung durch den Anbieter abhängig.
Wie Daten des Statista Brand Profiler nahelegen, zahlen besonders Personen aus der Generation Z und Millennials ihre Rechnungen gerne zeitverzögert. Etwa 45 beziehungsweise 43 Prozent der Umfrageteilnehmer:innen aus diesen Altersgruppen haben angegeben speziell die BNPL-Funktion von Klarna zu nutzen. Unter der Generation X (36 Prozent) und den Baby Boomern (28 Prozent) waren es deutlich weniger.
Vor allem die Gen-Z-Nutzer:innen, unter denen es auch eine große Schnittmenge mit TikTok-Nutzer:innen gibt, scheinen schon eine gewisse Abhängigkeit von der praktischen Zahlungsart aufzuweisen. Rund ein Fünftel der Befragten gaben an, dass sie sich ein Leben ohne “Buy now, pay later” nicht vorstellen wollen.
