Frauen bekommen im Alter in den meisten Fällen deutlich weniger Rente als Männer ausgezahlt. Das zeigt die Statista-Animation auf Basis von Daten der Deutschen Rentenversicherung. Besonders groß fällt die Differenz bei Altersrentnern aus, die mindestens 15 Jahre in die Rentenkasse eingezahlt haben: im Jahr 2021 haben weibliche Rentner hier 446 Euro weniger erhalten als Männer (Frauen: 919 Euro, Männer: 1365 Euro). Die Differenz ist über die Jahre allerdings geringer geworden: 1993 lag sie noch bei 559 Euro (Frauen: 459 Euro, Männer: 1.018 Euro).

In den Gruppen der Altersrentner, die mindestens 35 beziehungsweise 45 Jahre lang in die Rentenkasse eingezahlt haben fallen die Differenzen zwischen den Geschlechtern geringer aus, aber auch hier sind Frauen finanziell deutlich schlechter gestellt. Über den betrachteten Zeitraum hinweg hat sich die Geschlechterdifferenz nur leicht verkleinert. Nur in der Gruppe der Personen, die maximal 15 Jahre Rentenbeiträge gezahlt haben, haben Frauen die Männer im Zeitraum seit 1993 überholt.
Die Ursachen für dieses Gefälle sind vielfältig: So erwerben Frauen im Laufe ihres Erwerbslebens im Schnitt geringere Rentenansprüche, weil sie teilweise in schlechter bezahlten Branchen arbeiten als Männer. Frauen arbeiten zudem häufiger in Teilzeit, nehmen häufiger und längere Auszeiten für Care-Arbeit und sind seltener in Führungspositionen tätig.
Bei den Daten gilt zu beachten, dass sie nur die von der Rentenversicherung ausgezahlten Netto-Altersrenten zeigen. Im Einzelfall steht vielen Menschen im Alter ein höherer Betrag zum Leben zur Verfügung, da oft zusätzliche Ansprüche über eine Beamtenversorgung, eine private Altersvorsorge oder Zahlungen aus einer berufsständischen Versicherung erworben worden sind.
