Der deutsche Schuhhersteller Birkenstock generiert einen weltweiten Umsatz, der im Jahr 2022 erstmals die Milliardenmarke geknackt hat. In diesem Jahr wuchs der Umsatz auf rund 1,2 Milliarden Euro an, wie die Statista-Grafik zeigt. Im Zeitraum seit 2014 betrug die durchschnittliche jährliche Wachstumsrate des Umsatzes (CAGR = Compound annual growth rate) satte 20 Prozent. Birkenstock will in dieser Woche an die Börse gehen. Eine endgültige Entscheidung über die Preisgestaltung der Aktie wird Medienberichten für den heutigen 10. Oktober erwartet, einen Tag vor dem geplanten ersten Handelstag.
Birkenstock weist eine lange familiengeschichtliche Tradition auf, die mit dem Schuhmachermeister Johann Adam Birkenstock im 18. Jahrhundert ihre Anfänge nahm. Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahr 2013 umfassend restrukturiert. Die Führung der Gruppe unter CEO Oliver Reichert übernahm erstmals ein Team, das nicht aus dem Kreis der Familie Birkenstock stammte. Im Jahr 2016 folgten der Launch der internationalen Webseite Birkenstock.com und der Beginn gezielter Kooperationen mit internationalen Modemarken und Stars. Die Platzierung von Birkenstock-Sandalen im kommerziell erfolgreichen Kinofilm Barbie war der jüngste aufsehenerregende Marketing-Coup des Unternehmens. An Deutschland als Standort hält Birkenstock bislang fest, im vergangenen Jahr stammten 95 Prozent der Produkte von hier.
Der Erfolg von Birkenstock darf allerdings nicht darüber hinweg täuschen, dass der Schuhmarkt in Deutschland ist insgesamt noch schwächelt und bislang – mit Ausnahme des Segments Sneaker – das Vorkrisenniveau des Jahres 2019 noch nicht wieder erreicht hat.
