So sagt der Volksmund.

Genau heute vor 775 Jahren wurde angefangen den Kölner Dom zu bauen.

Der Südturm und der Nordturm sind gleich gross (fast) Sie wurden mal vermessen und unterscheiden sich um 4 cm. Geht ja mal gar nicht sowas oder?

157,22 bzw 157,18 Meter hoch.

144 Meter ist der Dom lang, das ist schonmal ordentlich für ein Gebäude aus früheren Zeiten.

Der ganze Koloss wiegt ca. 300.000 Tonnen!

Wir waren vor kurzem wieder einmal dort.

Der Kölner Dom gilt als Meisterwerk der gotischen Architektur.

Der italienische Künstler Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) leitete das Wort “Gotik” von den Goten ab – und die Goten galten als Barbaren.

Vasari wollte so die Kunst und Architektur der Renaissance positiv von der des Mittelalters abheben.

Erst in der Romantik verlor der Begriff seinen negativen Beigeschmack.

Die gotische Architektur ist zweifelsohne eine europäische Erfindung.

Interessant sind die orientalischen Eindrücke, die die Kreuzritter mitbrachten, denn der Spitzbogen, das Hauptkennzeichen der gotischen Architektur, war in Persien und Ägypten schon seit Jahrhunderten bekannt, ebenso Blattverzierungen, Maßwerk und Kreuzrippen.

Daher sind die gotischen Bauwerke auch irgendwie Persisch oder Ägyptisch.

Angeblich liegen im Kölner Dom die Gebeine der Heiligen drei Könige begraben.

Der Kölner Dom ist eigentlich immer an irgendeiner Stelle eingerüstet.

Sei es das Nachbesserungen erfolgen müssen oder sei es, dass die Steine wieder auf Vordermann gebracht werden müssen.

Interessanterweise war der DOM bei seiner Vollendung im Jahr 1880 weiß – das lässt sich unter anderem ziemlich gut auf Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos aus der Entstehungszeit erkennen. Aber nicht nur das: Da der Bau des Doms ganze 632 Jahre gedauert hat, besteht er dementsprechend aus verschiedenen Steinarten.

Dies erstaunt umso mehr, als dass manche Steine fast schwarz wirken durch ihre Patina.

So fast richtig fertig wurde er übrigens erst 1880. Wir erinnern uns, Grundsteinlegung war im Jahre 1248 .

Und last but not least, der Kirche wird imemr wieder vorgeworfen, dass sie nicht mit der Zeit geht.

Dennoch kann man dort für die Kerzen sogar mittels Visakarte bezahlen.

Das hat uns sehr erstaunt
