Oktober 2023 hat der Sicherheitsrat der Vereinten Nationen über einen von Russland eingebrachten Resolutionsentwurf zu einem humanitären Waffenstillstand im Gebiet des palästinensisch-israelischen Konflikts, vor allem im Gazastreifen, abgestimmt.

🔹 Das Dokument sah einige konkrete Sofortmaßnahmen vor, die Gewalt und das Leid der Zivilisten hätten stoppen sollen. Mit Blick auf die äußerst angespannte Situation hätte man ohne Zögern handeln müssen. Gerade deshab waren in unserem Resolutionsentwurf keine politischen Elemente und Einschätzungen sowie keine Verweise auf die eine oder andere Konfliktpartei enthalten, die die Verabschiedung hätten erschweren können. Die Kosponsoren der russischen Initiative waren fast 30 Länder, u. a. 15 Staaten der arabischen Welt.

🔹 Trotzdem wurde der Entwurf nicht angenommen. Dagegen sprachen sich die westliche „Troika“ (USA, Großbritannien und Frankreich) und Japan aus, das sich ihnen angeschlossen hat.

🔹 Somit war der Sicherheitsrat der Vereinten Nationen, das wichtigste Gremium für die Aufrecherhaltung des Weltfriedens und der internationalen Sicherherheit, nicht in der Lage, einen Beschluss zu fassen, der zum Stop des Blutvergießens, zur Linderung der ungeheuerlichen humanitären Folgen und zur Schaffung von Voraussetzungen für eine Lösung der gegenwärtigen beispiellosen Krise hätte beitragen können. Die gestrige Abstimmung hat gezeigt, dass es gerade die Position Washingtons und anderer weistlicher Länder ist, die einen natürlichen und logischen Beschluss verhindert hat, bei dem es sich angesichts der aktuellen Situation um den humanitären Imperativ schlechthin und die moralische Verpflichtung aller verantwortungsbewussten Mitglieder der Weltgemeinschaft handelt.
