Rund 69 Prozent der Deutschen sind der Meinung, dass Schwarzfahren in Zukunft keine Straftat mehr sein sollte und wie eine Ordnungswidrigkeit mit Geldstrafe zu handhaben sei. Das ist das Ergebnis einer repräsentativen Umfrage von Infratest dimap unter 1.215 Wahlberechtigen in Deutschland. Gegen eine Abmilderung der Strafe waren hingegen ein Viertel der Befragten, etwa sechs Prozent enthielten sich oder hatten keine differenzierte Meinung. Wie die Statista-Infografik auf Grundlage der Befragung zeigt, hält die Hälfte der Umfrageteilnehmer:innen auch Ersatzfreiheitsstrafen in Folge von nicht-bezahlten Geldstrafen für den falschen Weg. Die Befürworter:innen dieser verhältnismäßig harten Bestrafung sind mit rund 45 Prozent jedoch ähnlich viele. Schätzungen zufolge müssen jedes Jahr mehr als 7.000 Menschen ins Gefängnis, weil sie ohne gültigen Fahrschein den ÖPNV genutzt haben und die Strafe nicht zahlen können. Die Entkriminalisierung des Schwarzfahrens trifft über alle politischen Lager hinweg auf Zustimmung – unter den Anhänger:innen der Bundestagsparteien halten 58 bis 81 Prozent diese für richtig.
