5,9 Millionen neuen Abonnent:innen meldet Netflix für das vergangene Quartal – damit ist das Unternehmen nach einem schwachen Jahresstart wieder in der Spur. Als Grund hierfür nennt der Videostreaming-Dienst die im Mai in über 100 Ländern eingeleiteten Maßnahmen gegen Account-Sharing. Nun soll Paid Sharing auch in allen übrigen Märkten ausgerollt werden. Damit ist gemeint, dass Kund:innen, die ihren Account mit Menschen, die nicht in ihrem Haushalt wohnen, teilen, bezahlen müssen. Die Gesamtzahl der Abos beläuft sich auf 238,4 Millionen – davon rund 80 Millionen in Europa, dem Nahen Osten und Afrika. Umsatz und Gewinn belaufen sich für den Zeitraum April bis Juni 2023 auf 8,19 Milliarden US-Dollar beziehungsweise 1,5 Milliarden US-Dollar. Für den Rest des Jahres erwartet Netflix infolge des vollständigen roll outs von Paid Sharing mit einem beschleunigten Umsatzwachstum. Das Abowachstum soll im dritten Quartal 2023 etwa so hoch wie im zweiten Quartal ausfallen.
