In den aktuellen Wahlumfragen zur Bundestagswahl erreicht die Alternative für Deutschland AfD derzeit bislang unerreicht hohe Ergebnisse. Bei dem Institut INSA kommt die AfD bei einer vor zwei Tagen durchgeführten Umfrage auf einen Anteil von 19 Prozent und liegt damit gleichauf mit der SPD. Bei den anderen Instituten erreicht die AfD 17 bis 18 Prozent. Die Union liegt weiterhin bei allen Instituten mit großem Abstand vor allen anderen Parteien. Zwischen 27 und 30 Prozent der Befragten würden der CDU/CSU ihr Kreuz machen, wenn am kommenden Sonntag Bundestagswahlen wären. Die FDP würde derzeit maximal neun Prozent der Stimmenanteile erhalten.
Die AfD profitiert Medienberichten zufolge von der angespannten politischen und wirtschaftlichen Lage. Die Partei schneidet dabei traditionsgemäß in Ostdeutschland besser ab als in Westdeutschland. Im Osten hat sie auch eine stärkere Mitgliederbasis, wie diese Grafik zeigt. Einen Achtungserfolg erzielte sie allerdings bei der letzten Landtagswahl in Niedersachsen : hier hat sie ihr Ergebnis im Vergleich zur Wahl im Jahr 2017 um 4,7 Prozentpunkte verbessert. Damit war der rückläufige Trend bei Landtagswahlen gebrochen, wie diese Statista-Grafik veranschaulicht.
