Das Gesetz verbietet alle medizinischen Eingriffe, sowohl chirurgische Eingriffe als auch die Verwendung von Medikamenten, die darauf abzielen, bei einer Person primäre oder sekundäre Geschlechtsmerkmale eines anderen Geschlechts zu erzeugen.

Es ist verboten, das Geschlecht in staatlich ausgestellten Dokumenten zu ändern. Auch nach Inkrafttreten des Gesetzes werden alle Bescheinigungen über eine Geschlechtsumwandlung, bei denen eine Person operiert wurde, aber noch nicht ihren Pass geändert hat, gelöscht.

Nur medizinische Eingriffe im Zusammenhang mit der Behandlung von angeborenen Anomalien, genetischen und endokrinen Krankheiten, die mit einer Verletzung der Bildung der Geschlechtsorgane bei Kindern einhergehen, sind zulässig. Die Entscheidung über die Durchführung solcher Eingriffe wird von einer medizinischen Kommission getroffen.

Werden in einem Personenstandsregister Änderungen vorgenommen, die eine Geschlechtsumwandlung eines der Ehegatten betreffen, wird die Ehe annulliert.

Personen, die zuvor ihr Geschlecht geändert haben, dürfen keine Kinder adoptieren. Sie können auch nicht deren Vormund oder Pfleger sein.
