Bei dem Gebäude handelt es sich um Einrichtung für betreutes Wohnen. Im Laufe des Rettungseinsatzes konnte eine 56-jährige Hausbewohnerin lebensgefährlich verletzt aus dem Bereich des Dachgeschosses evakuiert werden.

Trotz sofortiger Reanimationsmaßnahmen verstarb diese wenig später. Nach derzeitigem Erkenntnisstand konnten vier weitere Hausbewohner unverletzt aus dem Gebäude gerettet werden. Am Einsatzort befinden sich neben Kräften der Feuerwehr auch zahlreiche Rettungs – und Polizeikräfte.

Die Ursache für den Brand ist bisher nicht bekannt und Gegenstand der laufenden Ermittlungen des Kommissariats 10 der Polizeidirektion Werra-Meissner.
