Die Türkei befindet sich in der heißen Phase des Superwahljahres 2023. Bei den Wahlen am 14. Mai werden sowohl das neue Parlament als auch der Staatspräsident gewählt. Für im Ausland lebende türkische Staatsbürger:innen endet die Abstimmungsfrist bereits am 9. Mai. Das betrifft laut Wahlkommission des Landes etwa drei Millionen registrierte Wähler:innen, die für Recep Tayyip Erdoğan und seine AKP das Zünglein an der Waage im denkbar knappen Wahlkampf sein können.

Wie die Statista-Grafik zeigt, hat der Großteil der Auslandstürk:innen in der Vergangenheit regierungstreu gewählt. Die Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) kam bei der letzten Parlamentswahl 2018 auf etwa 51,7 Prozent der Stimmen, gefolgt von der kemalistischen Oppositionspartei Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) mit 17,8 Prozent und knapp dahinter die mehrheitlich kurdische, linkspolitische Halkların Demokratik Partisi (HDP). Vor allem die HDP konnte bei den Auslandsstimmen seit ihrer Gründung 2012 deutlich gewinnen, während AKP und CHP Wähleranteile einbüßen mussten.

Die Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) regiert schon mehr als 20 Jahre in der Türkei, im aktuellen Wahltrend kommt das Regierungsbündnis aus AKP und ultranationalistischer Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi (MHP) aber auf keine Mehrheit. Auch bei der Präsidentschaftswahl liegt der Herausforderer Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu (CHP) in den Umfragen vor Amtsinhaber Erdoğan.

Die Wahlbeteiligung ist mit insgesamt 83 bis 86 Prozent bei den vergangenen Parlamentswahlen auf einem stabilen Niveau. Von den Auslandstürk:innen haben 2018 zuletzt jedoch nur etwa die Hälfte der Wahlberechtigten ihre Stimme abgegeben.
